Haight Village
The Victorian district immediately south-east of downtown, with stock running from the 1850s through the turn of the century and a designated historic character.
Signal Hill
A 1920s and 1930s neighbourhood on the west side, with Tudor and bungalow stock on curving streets and mature trees.
Midtown District
East of the Rock River, built out between the 1890s and the 1920s, with a strong Swedish settlement history still visible in the churches and street pattern.
North End
West-side neighbourhoods built largely between 1900 and 1940 during the city's machine-tool expansion.
Edgewater
Built from the 1920s through the 1940s along the Rock River north of downtown, on ground that slopes toward the water.
Keith Creek
East-side neighbourhood built mostly between 1900 and the 1930s along the creek that gives it its name, with a long local memory of flash flooding.
Broadway
The east-side corridor south of State Street, with pre-1940 housing threaded through an older commercial spine.
Churchill Park
West-side neighbourhood built out between roughly 1900 and the late 1920s, with substantial period homes and heavy tree cover.
Sinnissippi
North-east Rockford along the river and the park, built out mostly between the 1930s and the 1950s.
Auburn Street
The north-west corridor, built largely between the 1920s and the 1940s around the Auburn Street commercial spine.
Rolling Green
A 1950s and 1960s east-side neighbourhood of ranch houses on generous lots.
Guilford
East-side development spanning the 1950s through the 1970s, filling in around Guilford Road as the city expanded east.
Highcrest
A 1950s and 1960s east-side neighbourhood on higher ground, with split-level and ranch stock.
South West Rockford
Post-war development south and west of the centre, built largely between 1950 and the late 1960s.
South East Rockford
The 1960s and 1970s ring on the south-east side, built as the city spread toward Cherry Valley.
The Perryville Corridor
Late 1980s through 2000s growth on the far east side along Perryville Road.
